Where I catch up on what has happened since last post
Published on Friday, 22 March 2024

Why the long silence?

I had set a goal for myself to try to write up a blog post at least every month. The target I set for myself was simply in order for me to keep practising writing, and to get in the habit of exploring topics in detail and opening myself up to scrutiny by putting it online.

Since the last post, a lot has happened:

  • Big transitions at my day job, putting a lot more work on my table
  • Family stuff that suddenly demands more of my time

Those are things that could be worked around. The main thing that is getting in my way is that I find a lot of topics I'd love to write about, but not enough time to get into details with it. And that is probably where works gets in the way. Work is forcing me to jump between a lot of different tasks and projects rather than getting deep focus on one thing at a time.

So what does that mean for this blog?

I have a handful of topics that I am writing on simultaneously as I get the chance to work on them. Those may eventually get done and posted, or else I'll have to break them up into a series. The problem about posting a series though, is that it needs some level of commitment. It is frustrating to start something and then not finish it.

On the other hand, all of the small unfinished bits of article might fit the format of a series, if I can pool them into a shared topic. I suppose a good topic would be; "Switching Tech Stack from Python to Dotnet". Most of what I deal with now is about re-evaluating how I'm used to working with Python and legacy projects, and how I am now doing more and more Dotnet projects; both fresh projects, and inherited legacy. As one might expect, this leads to a bunch of challenges, which are worth detailing and sharing.

Where am I going with this?

Well, this turned out to be mostly just me thinking out loud, but now I've put it into writing, and seems like I've found a track that might be suitable for the blog for the foreseeable future.

The easiest things to write about are the things that I am exposed to day to day at my job, so that is what I should be focusing on. That said, I want to get more into 3D, graphics, shaders, and technical art. It is just a huge investment of time to get anywhere that is interesting to write about. Maybe next year, who knows 😅

Hi! thanks for dropping in to pick my brain

I write on this blog for my own benefit. I write because I like to, and because it helps me process topics. It is also my own little home on the web and a place for me to experiment.

Since you're here though, I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you've read here, so please leave a comment below. Also, if you like what you read and want to give a small tip, fell free to:
